Automatic download to in-house IT systems

Data Download Diagram

BOMcheck provides a fully documented API web interface and programming code which manufacturers can implement to provide web connections between their in-house IT systems and BOMcheck. The in-house IT system can send requests to the BOMcheck API web interface for lists of part numbers which have been declared by multiple different suppliers in BOMcheck. The BOMcheck API web interface downloads the substance declaration files in industry standard IPC 1752A XML format (or Excel CSV format) into a folder within the in-house IT system, ready for loading. The manufacturer’s IT system can load the BOMcheck IPC 1752A substance declarations files against the manufacturer’s part numbers and roll up the data for the BOM parts list to calculate compliance for the manufacturer’s finished product. The manufacturer can then manually upload the substance declaration for the finished product to BOMcheck for their customers to access.

Manufacturer members of BOMcheck can request aturnbull@bomcheck.net to provide zip files which contain

  • Java wrappers for the BOMcheck API
  • PHP wrappers for the BOMcheck API
  • html page which you can use to investigate the options to download substance declarations files
  • html page which you can use to investigate the integration data available on BOMcheck

The programming code in the wrappers uses the concept of inheritance and includes a Parent Class BomcheckAPI and two Child Classes – BomcheckDownload and BomcheckIntegration. The Guide to using the BOMcheck APIs to automate data download to in-house IT systems explains the variables / actions that each wrapper supports and provides best practice recommendations for how to download Regulation Compliance Declaration data files and Full Material Declaration data files, and how to load these data against the manufacturer’s part numbers in your in-house IT system. Many companies have used the wrappers to build their own BOMcheck integrations to their in-house IT systems, for example Carestream Health. Some software solutions providers include out-of-the box BOMcheck integration, other software solution providers offer BOMcheck integration as an additional service and a growing number of third parties are providing maintained integration products for software solutions. Alternatively, some companies use the Assembly Tools in the Super User Account to store their BOM parts lists and use BOMcheck to roll up the declarations data from their suppliers in BOMcheck to calculate the compliance for their assembled products.

ENOVIA Materials Compliance Central (MCC)

Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, provides business and people with virtual universes to imagine sustainable innovations. By implementing the ENOVIA Materials Compliance Central (MCC) solution as part of an overall environmental sustainability strategy, companies can verify and integrate compliance regulations at every phase of the innovation process. MCC V6R2013x can support all parameters in the BOMcheck data download API with a small amount of customisation by Tetra Tech’s BOMcheck – ENOVIA MCC integration services. MCC V6R2014 out-of-the-box supports all parameters in the BOMcheck data download API and also the BOMcheck integration API to automatically maintain database alignment, for example as new substances become regulated and new RoHS exemptions are published.

ENOVIA and Tetra Tech can support customers with older versions of MCC to use the BOMcheck data download load API and BOMcheck integration API through a customization that will back-port the functionality. Contact Mike Zepp, ENOVIA WW Expert Sales Representative or A.J Guikema, Senior Project Director, Tetra Tech for further details.

PTC Windchill Product Analytics (WPA)

PTC's Windchill Product Analytics is a suite of component and bill-of-material analysis solutions that empower users to assess product compliance, performance and risk, beginning early in the innovation process and continuing throughout the product lifecycle. These solutions complement your existing design and supply chain management systems and make product performance analytics an integral part of your product development process. The integration of Windchill Product Analytics and BOMcheck makes rich supplier data readily available to manufacturers during the earliest phases of product development. Further details about PTC’s established BOMcheck integration service are available from Mark Williford, Software Development Director or John Kuta, Product Analytics Strategy Director.

Oracle’s Agile Product Governance and Compliance

Oracle's Agile Product Governance and Compliance establishes a systematic approach to efficiently manage all aspects of product compliance. By merging compliance activities with the enterprise product record, you can comply with environmental standards, create policy documentation, and design compliant products—right from the start. Several companies have used the programming code in the wrappers to build their own BOMcheck integrations to Agile Product Governance and Compliance, for example Philips Healthcare. xPLM Solution GmbH is a respected of third party software company which provides a maintained Oracle Agile PLM – BOMcheck integration product. Contact Dennis Götting, Project Manager, xPLM Solution GmbH for further details.

SAP Product and REACH Compliance

SAP Product and REACH Compliance supports discrete industry manufacturers to provide proof of compliance with environmental directives. Several companies have used the BOMcheck programming code to build their own BOMcheck integrations to SAP Product and REACH Compliance, for example OSRAM, Siemens Healthcare. opesus AG was founded by former employees of the sustainability department of SAP and provides a maintained SAP Product and REACH Compliance – BOMcheck integration product. Contact Andreas Müller, Consultant, opesus AG for further details.

Siemens Teamcenter

Siemens Teamcenter helps you deliver increasingly complex products to market while maximizing productivity and streamlining global operations. Further details about Siemens services to integrate Teamcenter to BOMcheck are available from Tedie West, Siemens Teamcenter Product Manager.

BOMcheck Assembly Tool

Alternatively, some companies use the Assembly Tools in the Super User Account to store their BOM structures and use BOMcheck to roll up the declarations data from their suppliers to calculate the compliance for their assembled products. BOMcheck checks the suppliers declarations data every day and re-calculates the compliance of the assembled products accordingly. Philips has published a video which explains how Philips Consumer Lifestyle and Philips Lighting use BOMcheck as their IT system to calculate compliance for Philips assembled products.
